Stippled render

  • A classic render technique for elegant facades

One of the most commonly seen render techniques is the simple, uniformly applied stippled render. A classic choice, this aesthetic is determined by the grain size of the aggregate, whilst the tools used make it possible to model both directional and non-directional textures in the surface, with the finer aggregates creating a uniform, almost smooth surface when viewed at a distance. The delicate texture becomes visible up close, giving the facade a tactile quality.

As with all hand-crafted techniques, the skill and style of the craftsperson is essential in creating the desired, professional finish. This video is an indication of how this aesthetic can be executed, and of course this is only a starting point for more creative and imaginative designs. Variations in tools and techniques, as well as local climate conditions, should always be taken into consideration.

Material texture - aggregate grain size
Choosing the right texture is very important when considering the final desired aesthetic. Some application techniques and styles are best achieved with finer or more coarse materials which impact their workability. Other considerations include weathering, crack-resistance, and on-going maintenance of the surface material. Sto renders are available in various textures ranging from finer 1.5mm up to a more coarse 6mm aggregate grain size.

StoColor System - 1,000 colour shades, endless possibilities
The coordinate-based StoColor System delivers a whole host of composition options for render facades. Based on a colour wheel with 72 colour areas, 24 natural white nuances as well as 6 black tones, a series of 48 graduations of greys are at your disposal. To help you select the suitable colour, we offer a range of colour fans, colour cards as well as boxes and downloadable files for use with most illustration tools such as Adobe Photoshop and SketchUp.
