Originally designed by the Colonial Architect's Office (Chief Draughtsman), Pierre Finch Martineau Burrows (PFM Burrows) and constructed in 1879-1881, this building is a fine example of Neo-Palladian style civic buildings. The heritage building in the heart of the New Zealand capital was in a derelict state until its restoration in 2009, when the new Supreme Court building was complete. Together they form a new 'Justice Park' complex for the country.
Amongst the extensive restoration works both on the interiors and exterior of the building, many Sto products were used to bring the building back to its former glory. The ceiling plaster was removed and replaced with new fibrous plaster for better acoustic management. The exterior plasterwork was also removed during the refurbishment and replaced with a Stolit MP Remedial Plaster system.
